just wondered if this would work on any knockout comps?say you laid man city to win the FAcup @7.6 for £100 and then back them for £85 against next opponent in match odds,@1.4 ish if they lose great you make a tenner,if they win,in this case against scunthorpe ,you win the match bet but the outright liability still stands, then put winnings from scunthorpe game including £85 stake on next game, remembering games will be getting harder as the comp progresses meaning bigger odds, ,so thats £85x1.4=119-commish=117.30 on the next game, and so on and on until they get beat, and if they do get beat you still make a tenner, but if they get to the final that original stake money will be hopefully a bit bigger than the original liability on comp winner, what i was wondering was what would the average odds be on the games as they progressed so i can get an idea what that £85 would be before the final game,i know its long winded and your money will be tied up for a while but if it works i will get a seperate bank just to it,also if your team gets through a fair way and you have built up more than your comp liability there are possibilities there as well, hope you lot know what i mean and any answers or improvments from you load of geniuses will be greatly apprieciated!cheers. :D

Sound idea in principal, but that's a long winded use of your liquidity if you ask me! Why don't you try it with say a snooker or tennis tournament over a few days to get a better idea?

City's odds against Scunthorpe are going to be a lot lower that against a prem team, so unless you can predict the draw I don't see how you can realistically calculate this one!

yes any sport any tournament, but if man city (example)get through, and they should their odds next game should get bigger, but like you say in a tennis darts snooker comp etc, where the comp is over in a week or two, lay a player to win comp @10-20 for £100 and back them for£80ish to win first match and if they win that use the £80 as an accumulator bet till they get knocked out, only ever risklding £80 as you win £100 from the lay bet, could this work on the fav?Its just something i read on a site called laytheodds and a so called pro punter says he uses this regular to make money,i will paper trade a few players in the aus open starting today.

Gun has just mentioned the draw above, what about a draw in the match? What would happen if Man City/Scunthorpe drew? You'd lose your win bet and your lay bet would still be going. So you'd have to bet on the To Qualify market, where the odds would be even lower.

I reckon it is worth considering, but as you seemed to have already worked out yourself, as a trial something like tennis which has a shorter tournament time would be a better start, especially where there are only 2 outcomes

Yeah the laytheodds article i read did say about the "to qualify market" its just i forgot to mention it,but as you say the odds would be lower,so the 2 outcome events seem better if the odds are ok to make it work, also the comp is over much quicker, anyway you never know there might be something in this,so im going to keep my eye on a couple of comps to see if it works, thanks for your replies.

Was looking at this for the Villa game tonight v Blackburn. Villa 1 up from last week. What you could do is the following:

Back Villa in match odds, 1.82
Lay Villa in to qualify at 1.16

Dangers? The draw or a late Blackburn goal and then Villa qualifying in extra time........

So you could back 0-0, 1-1, 2-2 or perhaps or 2 from 3.
